Robert J. Kobylarczyk (Bob), 70, of Momence, Illinois passed away on Friday, September 10, 2021, after a brief illness. Robert was born in Chicago, IL on October 10, 1950 to Pauline A. and Frank S. Kobylarczyk. He lived with his family in Chicago until age 18 and then moved on to various group homes for developmentally disabled men.  He found his permanent home at Good Shepherd Manor in Momence, IL, where he has been cared for since 1972.

Robert enjoyed various hobbies over the years.  As a child, he enjoyed looking for four-leaf clovers to give to his family members for good luck, collecting glass bottles for the deposit money to purchase snacks, and searching under picnic tables for lost coins. As an adult, his favorite activity was playing with a calculator, which he called his “adding machine”.  He would enter a math problem, say aloud what the answer was, and then press the equals sign and delight in the fact that he got the answer correct.  Robert was a math and numbers whiz.  He had memorized family members’ birthdates and remembered important dates which he could recall immediately when asked.  He also enjoyed cutting letters out of paper to create words and phrases.  The letters were meticulously formed, the words were spelled perfectly, and the phrases were positive messages, such as “Robert is a happy boy at home.”

Bob’s sweet smile will be missed by family, friends, and caretakers.  He was as pure as a person could be. He never told a lie and was always unconditionally kind and loving to everyone he encountered.

Robert is survived by his sister, Judie Schneider;  his two nieces, Cynda (Arnaldo) Monteiro and Kendra (Scott) Maddox; nephew, Austin Schneider; great-nephew, Cameron Maddox; cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline in 2017;  father, Frank S. in 2008; and brother, Frank F.  in 1974.

The family extends extreme gratitude to all of the caretakers and staff at Good Shepherd Manor.  Special thanks to Brother Alphonsus Brown who not only looked out for Bob’s interests for 48 years, but was a true, loving friend to Bob and his family.  Bob was blessed to have all of you in his life.

A memorial mass was held in the chapel of Good Shepherd Manor.  Burial will be in St. John Cantius Cemetery, Sobieski, WI.  Marnocha Funeral Home of Pulaski, WI is assisting the family.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home.
