Richard “Ike” Karcz, Sr. passed away peacefully at his home in Maple Grove on Sunday afternoon, November 13, 2022.  The son of the late Anton and Hattie (Rudnick) Karcz, Ike was born at his parents’ tavern in Angelica on September 10, 1937. He grew up on his parents’ farm in Maple Grove and graduated from Pulaski High School in 1955. On November 24, 1973, he married Marcella Ann Kozlowski, the daughter of Anton and Margaret Kozlowski, at St. John Lutheran Church in Pulaski. In 1977, Ike and Marcella bought the family farm on the edge of Maple Grove and Angelica where he split his time between farming, driving commercial truck, and raising their four children and five grandchildren.

Ike was very committed to a culture of farming, from his love of old tractors to his religious devotion, to watching AgDay on the weekends. He was an avid reader with a sharp mind towards military history and politics. Ike loved socializing and meeting new people, trading stories over a drink, or striking up a conversation with a stranger (years of traveling about the state made him familiar with many places outside of his rural homestead in Maple Grove). He loved polka music, horses, and western movies; his favorites starring John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, and Charles Bronson (that and war epics). In his younger years Ike was an avid horseman, was a part of the Polish Eagles Snowmobile Club, and enjoyed shooting and marksmanship.

Ike is survived by his wife, Marcella; two sons: Richard “Ike” Karcz Jr. , Pulcifer and Steven Karcz (special friend, Tracey Brewczynski), Pulaski; two daughters: Stephanie (Josh) VanDen Heuval, Krakow and Antoinette Eisner, Pulaski; three granddaughters: Rasia Posey, Raven Karcz, and Raya Eisner; two grandsons: Hayden Eisner and Harrison Eisner; a brother-in-law, Clarence Kozlowski;  a sister-in-law, Marlene Karcz; three nephews and five nieces; Jacqueline Tobin, William Karcz, Pat Karcz, Kelly Asuma, Mark Karcz, Michelle Maroszek, Jessica Rausch, and Julie Baranczyk; and many great nieces and nephews along with a multitude of cousins and distant family members.

Ike was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Hattie; two brothers: Anton Jr. and Gerald; and one sister, Lorraine.

Friends are invited to gather with the family at Assumption B.V.M. Church, 119 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski, on Monday, November 21, from 9-11 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Angelica.
