Irene A. Sobieski, 94, Abrams, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023, at her home. The daughter of Julius and Anna Giada was born September 10, 1928, in Oak Creek.
Irene married Joseph Sobieski on July 9, 1949. The couple moved to the Abrams area in 1969 and ran Sobieski’s Bar for 13 years. In her younger years, Irene worked picking vegetables on the family farm. She also worked at Patrick Cudahy and in the kitchen at AC Delco. Irene was also the best homemaker a person could ask for. She enjoyed feeding the birds, doing puzzles, and playing cards, especially solitaire and Gin Rummy.
Survivors include her five children: Christine Janiak, Judith (Tony) DeFalico, Joseph, Jr. (Maureen) Sobieski, Donald (Margaret) Sobieski, and Kathleen (Tom) Filipiak; her grandchildren: Jeff, Janine, Jolene, Andy, Travis, Gina, Dana, Jill, Pattie, Joseph, Steven, Alex, Evan, and Kayla; two step-grandchildren, Lauren and George; 21 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Dorothy Sobieski and Helen Rudal; and many nieces, nephews, and other family.
In addition to her husband, Joseph, Sr. and parents, Julius and Anna, she was preceded in death by two infant grandsons, Jake and Michael; a brother Willard (Jane) Giada; three sisters: Margaret (Leo) Nallay, Silvia Locker, and Violet (Robert) Brink; a son-in-law, Michael Janiak; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law on Joseph’s side.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the Morgan Town Hall, 3276 County Road C, Oconto Falls, on June 24, beginning at 1 p.m.
