Daryl R. Nowak, 70, Krakow, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, after a short illness. The son of Robert and Dolores (Kowalkowski) Nowak was born April 27, 1952, in Green Bay.
A 1970 graduate of Pulaski High School, Daryl married his childhood sweetheart, Sharon Hodkiewicz, on August 12, 1972, at St. Alphonsus Parish in Greendale. The couple lived in Green Bay for their first four years of marriage and then built their home on the family farm in Krakow.
Daryl was a responsible young farmer at an early age. He helped with chores, then milking as he grew older. He loved the land, planting crops and harvesting alongside his parents. Daryl also enjoyed making hay with his brothers-in-law, other family members and friends. His boys, Dan and Bryan, and their cousins also enjoyed the “farm life” and doing chores as they grew up. Daryl was a hardworking man with a good work ethic.
Daryl started working at Carver in 1971 when they still made wooden boats. He spent the last 20 years of his Carver career working as a supervisor on the finishing line for Carver’s largest yachts. He acquired many good friends over the years at Carver. He also continued with farming throughout those years.
An avid outdoorsman, Daryl had an appetite for deer hunting, sparked by the guidance of a good friend’s dad. He passed his love for hunting on to his boys and their children. He was a mentor and a teacher and loved giving advice to the kids in the family. In his younger adult years, he enjoyed pheasant hunting with his high school buddy and his hunting dog, Bruiser. Ice fishing excursions to the UP with friends and their wives were also a favorite pastime. Weekend getaways at the cabin relaxing with family and friends and camping with his sisters and their families at Boot Lake were great memories.
There were lots of fun times in the boat with the boys and trying to teach them the “techniques” of fishing was nearly impossible. In his later adult years, was able to enjoy some serious fishing with Uncle Jim up north.
He is survived by his wife, Shari; two sons: Dan (Jamie) Nowak; Bryan (Roxanne) Nowak; grandchildren: Griffin, Dayne, Autumn, Boyd and Cole: two sisters: Lynn (Dennis) Schwartz and Bonnie Lasecki, nephews: Lee (Cara) Schwartz, Craig (Katie) Schwartz, Chad Lasecki, and Cory (Julia) Lasecki; and many grand nieces, grand nephews, and other family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Dolores; an infant daughter, Kelly Marie; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dominic and Juliann Hodkiewicz; and brothers-in-law, James Hodkiewicz and Randy Lasecki.
Friends are invited to gather at Assumption B.V.M. Church, 119 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski, on Tuesday, April 4, from 9-11 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Fr. Carmen Scuderi, O.F.M. presiding. Entombment will be in Allouez Catholic Mausoleum, Green Bay.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to NEW Rescue and the staff at St. Vincent Hospital; your expertise and compassion are commendable.
