Joyce (Zillmer) Proctor, 93, of Pittsfield, passed away peacefully at home with family at her side on June 6, 2022, after a brief illness.

Joyce was born on November 13, 1928, to John and Cora (Gagnon) Steinbrecher. She was a graduate of Pulaski High School, a loving homemaker, a gardener, a traveler, and the kindest person you could ever meet. Joyce valued hard work and instilled that ethic in all of her children.

On June 4, 1949, Joyce married Ralph Zillmer at SS. Edward and Isidore Church in Flintville. Ralph preceded her in death on April 12, 1965. On May 31, 1972, Joyce married Clyde Proctor in Michigan. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2000.

Joyce had a zest for life and loved being around people. She was a member of the Anston Social Club, St. Theresa Club and several church committees. She was also a 4-H leader and volunteered at the Brown County Fair. Joyce delivered newspapers for a while, and she worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Green Bay for several years, earning their coveted “People Pleaser of the Year Award” in 1990.

Joyce had a large family, and spending time with them always brought her joy. No one went hungry when Joyce was around. From custard pie to chicken booyah to Christmas candy to canning fruits and vegetables, she was a master. And everyone was welcome at her table.

Joyce was known for the gorgeous afghans she made, and visitors couldn’t leave without taking home some of her legendary crocheted dish scrubbies. She also grew the most beautiful African violets and gladiolus.

Joyce is survived by her children: John (Christine) Zillmer, Carol Welhouse, Donald (Sheri) Zillmer, Gail (John) Okray, Mary Hille, James (Jean) Zillmer and Judy Kwasny; her grandchildren: Andrew Zillmer, Mike (Amy) Zillmer, William (Anne) Zillmer, Jonathan (Amy) Welhouse, Matthew (Lizz) Welhouse, Anthony Zillmer, Ryan Okray, Jessica (Bruce) May, Joseph (Amy) Zillmer, Krista (Jacob) Lang, Katie (Jacob) Monson, Emily (Sean) Preisler, Jennifer Zillmer, and Taylor and Sarah Kwasny.
