Janet Eleanor Powers passed to Eternal Life at the age of 88 on December 25, 2020. A long-time resident of Angelica, Wisconsin, Janet died due to complications of COVID-19 at Forest Glen Assisted Living in Seymour. Janet was born on November 12, 1932, to Wilmer and Leona (Heus) Runge of Sherwood, Wisconsin. Following her graduation from St. Mary Catholic High School, Janet served as an executive secretary in the offices of Marathon Corporation and American Can Company in Neenah.
Throwing a 16-pound bowling ball, she met her beloved husband Clifford Powers at a tournament in March of 1963, where she held her 179-pin average. They left the bowling alley deciding whose Chevy to take – his ’55 pick-up or her ’62 Corvette convertible. The farm truck won and Janet joined Cliff on the Holstein dairy farm in Angelica. The couple was married on January 4, 1964, at Sacred Heart Church in Sherwood.
Janet farmed alongside Cliff for over 40 years, including being the main sweet corn picker for the family’s road-side stand, sometimes snapping 300 dozen ears a day. They worked together on the Angelica Town Board with Janet serving as Treasurer and then Clerk until she retired in 2019, when they moved to Forest Glen. She continued to create exquisite cards and gifts, adding quilling to her talents in her last year. A true fan of the Braves/Brewers, Bucks, and Packers, she rarely missed listening to or watching a game. Janet was also devoted to her Catholic faith, including many years at Assumption B.V.M Parish in Pulaski.
Survivors include her children: Jeanine (Karl) Zornow of Kaukauna, Glenn (Kelly) Powers of Portland, Oregon, and Scott (Anne) Powers of Angelica. Grandchildren include Morgan (fiancé Brian Barkdoll) and Mitchell Powers; Vincent, Anthony, Francis, Edward, and step-grandson David Zornow; and Evan and Ali Powers. Janet is further survived by her brother, Denis (Carol) Runge of Combined Locks, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband Clifford, on July 13, 2019, as well as her parents, and brothers-in-law and their wives, Gerald (Dolores and Irene) Powers and Jack (Leatrice) Powers.
