Helen A. Birr, 89, Oconto Falls, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at a local hospital. The daughter of John and Helen (Kulick) Tajak was born March 16, 1933, in Sobieski.

On August 31, 1957, Helen married Donald Birr at St. Casimir Church, Krakow. Helen worked at Northern Shoe in Pulaski for 12 years and farmed in the Town of Morgan with Donald for over 30 years. She was a member of St. Casimir Altar Rosary Society and the American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #337, Pulaski. Helen enjoyed cooking, baking, tending to her vegetable and flower gardens, and making an occasional trip to the casino.

Survivors include her husband, Donald; six children: Gary (Julie) Birr, Marsha (Steve) Laurent, Donna (Bill) Gerndt, Ruth Longsine, Norman Birr, and Tim (Tammy) Birr; seven grandchildren: Alyssa, Kaitlyn, Aaron (fiancée, Alicia), Travis, Zachary, Emily (fiancé, Bryan), and John; a sister, Joan Depa; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norman and Lucy Birr; infant twins, Pamela and Duane; a granddaughter, Sarah (Birr) Rust; siblings: Stella (John) Placek, Walter (Stella) Tajak, Joseph Tajak, Peter (Helen) Tajak, Jean (Edward) Kudlick, Frank Tajak, and Frances (Raymond) Hylok and brother-in-law, Tony Depa.

Friends are invited to gather with the family at Assumption B.V.M. Church, 119 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski, on Wednesday, August 10, from 9-11 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with Fr. James Esser, O.F.M. presiding. Entombment will take place in the Allouez Catholic Mausoleum.

The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the 3rd floor ICU doctors and nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital in Green Bay and to Oconto Falls Rescue for their compassion and the tender care they gave to Helen.
