Robert Merle Burk, 93, Oconto Falls, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at a Green Bay nursing home.

He was born January 2, 1926, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to the late David and Margaret (Bailey) Burk. A U.S. veteran of WWII, Bob served in the invasion of Normandy. He had been employed at the Great Bend Tribune as composing room foreman until retiring after 30 years of service.

Mr. Burk was a member of the DAV, and former member of the VFW, American Legion, St. Patrick’s Church, Knights of Columbus, Kansas Elks Lodge, and Lake Barton Golf Club.

Bob is survived by two daughters and their families: Carol Elizabeth Burke, and husband Professor Harry Gottesfeld & their children, Pearl Elizabeth & James Oliver, all of Paris, France; Gina Faye Burke (Seyed) Kafimoussavi, Rockville, MD; three grandsons: Ali, Hasan, and Hosein; stepdaughters: Diane Miller, Gillett; Carrie (John) Venhoven, Sobieski, and Donna Streng, Florida; stepsons: Mike (Lisa) Streng, Green Valley; Richard (Kay) Streng, Minnesota; a sister, Jacqueline (Burk) Rullman and her son, Edward Rullman; brothers-in-law: Jack (Margaret) VanDenBusch, Oconto Falls; Ollie and Arnie Anderson, Oconto Falls, Norbert Jaworski, Florida, Edward Jaworski, Florida; Eugene Jaworski, Michigan, Mathew Jaworski, Madison, James Jaworski, North Chase, and Ronald Jaworski, North Chase; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Pecht, Green Bay, Alvina Sievert, Pulaski, Mary McVey, Kansas, Elaine Ver Haagh, Green Bay; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Mae (Jaworski) Burk and then his second wife, Genevieve (Streng) (Waldgren) Burk; his son: Robert Merle Burke, Jr.; brothers-in-law: John Jaworski, Sr., Robert Jaworski, Willard Jaworski, and Larry Jaworski.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 11th at Assumption B.V.M. Church in Pulaski, Fr. Patrick Gawrylewski, O.F.M., presiding, followed by military honors by the Pulaski Area Veterans, with committal in the parish cemetery.

The family extends a special thanks to his friends at Ridgeview Apartments in Oconto Falls for watching out for Bob.
