JoAnn Kowalkowski, 93, Pulaski, died peacefully Thursday evening, April 6, 2017, following a short bout with pneumonia. The daughter of Anton and Anna (Lepak) Blasczyk was born March 1, 1924, in Laney, the oldest of 14 siblings, who always called her Jenny.
On October 14, 1940, she married Roman Kowalkowski, Sr. in Illinois. The couple farmed in the Krakow area for several years, and then moved to Pulaski in 1962. JoAnn worked at Northern Shoe for 20 years, worked seasonally at area canning companies, and then volunteered as a library aide at Glenbrook Elementary School for about ten years. She was a strong faith-filled woman and a member of Assumption B.V.M. Parish in Pulaski, where she faithfully went to pray the rosary daily. JoAnn enjoyed dancing to Polka music, gardening, and getting together with family for all the holidays and special occasions.
Survivors include one daughter and three sons: Alice Przybylski, Bonduel, Don Kowalkowski, Krakow, Roman Jr. (Sharon) Kowalkowski, Green Bay, and Tony (Diane) Kowalkowski, Lena; one daughter-in-law, Jan (Al) Dillenburg, Shawano; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; nine brothers and sisters: Mike (Betty) Blasczyk, Green Bay, Tony (Audrey) Blasczyk, Green Bay, Leo Blasczyk, Georgia, Tom (Todd) Blasczyk, Wausau, Jake (Ann) Blasczyk, Madison, Louis (Corrine) Blasczyk, Appleton, Theresa Sobiesczyk, Milwaukee, Barbara Phillips, Pulaski, and Angeline (Kurt) Hansen, Gillett; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roman, in 1991; three sons: Richard, Roger, and Ted; one daughter, Judy Liesner; one son-in-law, Lloyd Przybylski; one daughter-in-law, Janet Kowalkowski; one granddaughter, Nicole Kowalkowski; three brothers and one sister-in-law: John (Louise), Joe, and Ernie Blasczyk; one sister, Mary Blasczyk; a sister-in-law, Kathy Blasczyk; and two brothers-in-law: Leonard Sobiesczyk, and Ralph Phillips.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 10th at Assumption B.V.M. Church in Pulaski, Fr. Patrick Gawrylewski, O.F.M. presiding. Burial took place in the parish cemetery.
