Esther Karcz, 95, Pulaski, died peacefully Monday evening, January 8, 2018, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Seymour. The daughter of Peter and Frances (Wisniewski) Nowak was born March 30, 1922, in Angelica. On June 22, 1946, she married Peter H. Karcz at Assumption B.V.M. Church in Pulaski. The couple had a butcher shop, an implement company, and farmed in the town of Chase. After retiring, the couple spent much of their time at their cottage in Crandon. She had been a member of the Secular Franciscans. A woman of faith, the rosary was an important way for her to pray. She was a gracious and humble woman, a hardworking mom and farm wife. She made sure the kids would read books and spent lots of time going over spelling lists with them. She liked to smell good and look good, too. Esther always told the grandchildren to “remember to always be good to old people.”

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law: Dennis (Linda), Gary (Robyn), all of Pulaski, and Duane (Elaine), Crandon; four daughters and sons-in-law: Bonnie (Charlie) Chlopek, Sobieski, Darlene (Craig) Garbrecht, Oconto Falls, Shirley (Pat) Kapla, Crandon, and Janice (Terry) Cayemberg, Ashwaubenon; 20 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Aurelia Nowak, Ashwaubenon, and Mary Ann (Richard “Butch”) Wojcik, Pulaski; one sister-in-law, Regina Nowak, Pulaski; one brother-in-law, Al Shomberg, Florida; Peter’s family: Mary Ann (Richard) Blasczyk, Annabelle and Eleanor Karcz, and Robert VanLannen; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter, on June 15, 1996; one son-in-law, Mike Sikorski; two brothers: Bernie Nowak and Arthur (Dorothy) Nowak; one sister, Geraldine Shomberg; and Pete’s family: John (Angeline) Karcz, Antone (Hattie) Karcz, Leo (Victoria) Karcz, Edward Karcz, Henry Karcz, Sylvester (Ellie) Karcz, Stanley (Irene) Karcz, Frances (Albert) Bialozynski, Irene (Vic) Mielcarek, Betty VanLannen, Eugene (Ceil) Karcz, and infant brother, Thomas Karcz.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 12th at Assumption B.V.M. Church in Pulaski, Fr. Patrick Gawrylewski, O.F.M. presiding and Fr. James Esser, O.F.M. concelebrating. Entombment took place in Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
