Elvera Dryja

Elvera Genevieve Dryja, 95, passed away after a long and courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia, with her daughters at her side on December 11, 2018, at Stuart Lodge Assisted Living in Stuart, FL. Elvera, formerly from Krakow, moved to Florida in 2015. She loved the warm weather, which allowed her go outside in the sunshine all year.

Elvera, born November 6, 1923, was the only child of Ewald and Theresa (VanDerwegen) Nicholaus and lived in Green Valley until she graduated from Pulaski High School in 1941. She then attended St Mary’s School of Nursing where she received her RN diploma in 1945. Elvera married Harold Dryja in 1946 and the couple resided in Krakow for most of the 67 years they were married. Harold preceded her in death on January 19, 2014.   Elvera worked at St Mary’s Hospital for her entire nursing career and assisted in the delivery of over 6,000 babies, some spanning second and third generations.

Elvera was an active member of St Casimir Church in Krakow, where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was the substitute mail carrier in Krakow for several years. Elvera and Harold were active in supporting numerous causes for veterans and together they traveled to Iron Mountain, MI, for veterans events. She was a current member of the American Legion Aux. Unit #337 in Pulaski and PLAV Aux. Unit #178 in Krakow.

In her teen years mom loved dancing and going to Krakow dances with her friend and future sister-in-law, Marie Lotto. She and dad loved going to Club 32 with Uncle Leroy and friends. Together they were avid Packers and Brewers fans. Elvera was a devoted wife, loving mother and wonderful nurse. Her son, daughters, daughters- in-law, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will miss her greatly.

Elvera is survived by her daughters: Cynthia Kollath, Stuart, FL, Carolyn Schultz, Rockledge, FL, and Constance (Dave) Coyne, Finksburg, MD; son, James (Judy) Dryja, Rockledge, FL.; daughter-in-law, Kimberly (Black) Dryja, Maryville, TN.; granddaughter, Kelly Kollath Huenink and partner Tedd Dommer, Appleton; grandsons: Wyatt, Parker and Garrett Dryja, Maryville, TN; great-granddaughter, Charleigh Huenink; great-grandson, Korben Huenink, Appleton.; sisters-in-law: Geraldine (Ted) Niedzwiecki, Green Bay, and Susie Dryja, Manitowoc; and brother-in-law, LeRoy Dryja, Green Bay. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elvera was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; son, Jeffrey; son-in-law, Richard Kollath; grandson, Eric Kollath; brothers-in-law: Roman, Gene, and Richard Dryja, Ted Niedzwiecki, and Jim Sybeldon; and sisters-in-law, Joan and Marie Dryja, and Sylvia Sybeldon.

Elvera will be cremated and brought back to Wisconsin in May where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Casimir Church with burial in the parish cemetery.
