E. Rita DeGroot, 70, Morgan, passed away Friday, October 6, 2017, at a Green Bay hospital, following a lengthy battle with health issues.

The daughter of Vence and Eleanor (Campbell) Mikula was born October 19, 1946, in Traverse City, MI and studied nursing at NWTC in Green Bay. Rita married Joseph John DeGroot, Sr. on July 16, 1966 at St. Joseph Church in Green Bay. She worked as an LPN for many years at Sharpe Care Nursing Home in Oconto Falls, until health problems prevented her from working. She was a member of Assumption B.V.M. Parish in Pulaski and had also enjoyed being a member of the Oconto Falls Chatty Hatters Society for many years.

Rita loved spending time with her family, gardening, bowling, feeding her cats, and sitting on the patio, enjoying the simple pleasures of the outdoors and wildlife. She also enjoyed target shooting and the annual summer tomahawk throws.

Survivors include her children: Joe (Karen Gilligan) DeGroot, Spruce, Laura (Bill) Coppernoll, West Salem, Stephen (Barb Platten) DeGroot, Morgan, Justin DeGroot, Rapid River, MI, and Josh (Sarah) DeGroot, Morgan; grandchildren: William, Nicholas, Katherine, Teresa, Abigail, Sarah, Vincent, and Isaac Coppernoll, all of West Salem, Alexandra DeGroot, Pulaski, Lucille and Jack DeGroot, Rapid River, MI, and Daxton DeGroot, Morgan; her siblings: Mike (Jeanne) Mikula, OK, Joe (Vicky) Mikula, MI, and Tony (Tammy) Mikula, Oconto Falls; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, on May 21, 1993, her parents, and one brother, Bill Mikula.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 12th at Assumption B.V.M. Church in Pulaski, Fr. Patrick Gawrylewski, O.F.M. presiding. Burial took place in St. Anthony Cemetery, Oconto Falls.
